Actually Finishing Something in July Week #4 Linkup

Today I am participating in Week #4 of the Actually Finishing Something in July Linkup hosted by Whisperings of the Pen. Click on the picture above to see the post explaining the linkup.

How goes progress? Progress goes very, very well, because I won my first Camp NaNoWriMo on July 25th! Writing is my excuse for not blogging since the blog award post. I was so busy participating in word wars on Go Teen Writers that I didn’t have much time for blogging.
Snippet-time! Share a snippet or two from your weekly writing. Oh great. Snippet time. These are really rough snippets, so I’m nervous about sharing them, but here goes.
She mashed her hands even harder into her ears and sobbed even more. Her sobs helped to drown out the sound a little bit, but it didn’t help that much. Then, slowly, the sound began to wind down and finally, it faded to nothing but a few sad whimpers. Twig slowly lifted her fists from her ears. She uncurled her body and wiped furiously at her wet, irritated eyes and face. Then, she slowly and stiffly walked back into the room. Her movements were like those of a robot, unfeeling and automatic.
“Holy smokes! Holy smokes! Holy smokes! Spaceship 2016. Hallelujah! She’s alive! You are alive! Did you know that, Twig Appleton? You are alive!” the operator screamed, her voice cracking with pure joy.
Do you have a Pinterest inspiration board, or other
collection of images, that inspires your story? If so, share a couple of them with us. I don’t have a Pinterest account or a collection of images that inspire my story. However, once I’m done with my first draft, I think I should probably start looking for some pictures (or even draw some myself!) to help me better describe my scenes as I edit.
How would the main character of your story react if he or she were introduced to you? I think my main character and I would get along really well. We’re pretty similar and our differences (she’s more dramatic and adventurous and less into crafts) would not get in the way of our friendship.
Introduce us to one or two of the secondary characters in your story. Hmmm…I think I shall introduce you to Sinicane. (I don’t even know where that name came from, and I’ll probably end up changing it later, especially because it sounds like sinister, and Sinicane is not sinister.) Sinicane is a kind alien, and a natural leader to the prisoners. In times of chaos, she is the one that stays calm and thinks of a clever plan to solve the current problem. She also has a special power that allows her to rapidly increase and decrease her height.
If your main character were allowed to choose a super-power, which power would he or she most desire? Twig would probably want to have the ability to read people’s minds. She would probe the minds of the Loki warriors in order to easily figure out the secrets that she knows they are hiding. But of course I am going to be evil and not give her that power, because if I did the story would be very boring and cheesy.
We’re nearing the end of this summer challenge! Is the completion of your goal in sight? As I said before, I already achieved my goal. Whoop-dee-doo! Party time! Actually, I should probably save the celebration for when I finish my first novel. I’m so close!
Now I want to know what super power the main character in your story would choose. Please let me know in the comments!

  1. I like your blog! It is awesome! i love the title too!
I have started a blog called estrella’s trendy teen and i was hoping you can take a look at it and comment on what you think! Could you also please spread the word about it? Where did you post the link to your blog for it to become frequently viewed?

    here is the link….

    1. Thanks so much! I’ll go check out your blog. If you want to get more views for your blog, you could try making your profile name Daisy Blogger @ Estrella’s Trendy Teen so that people know the title of your blog when they see your comment. Also, you can comment on other blogs and add your link to blog linkups or memes such as Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, The Teens Can Write Too blog chain, and Beautiful People hosted by The Notebook Sisters and Further Up and Further In. These linkups are more for reading and writing, but I’m sure that there are linkups for fashion as well.

  2. Congrats on reaching your goal!! *throws confetti* Like the loser I am, I’ve only JUST started writing…seriously, why can’t I coordinate myself with NaNo at least??! Gah. November. I promise I will in November. 😉 And good luck in those word wars too! I see the facebook group was quite excited over them but I’ve never ever done a word war. 😉 Pinterest is awesome for procrastinating…heh. NO wait! I mean collecting story ideas! But honestly, I’ve gotten some really great inspiration just from collecting pictures for my books using Pinterest.

    1. You should definitely try out NaNoWriMo! It is so motivating! And didn’t you write on your blog that you can write a book in two weeks? That will make it really easy to win. Word wars are very fun. The good thing about GTW is that it has a lot of followers, so there is almost always someone available to word war in the comments section. Pinterest does seem very useful, but my parents strictly limit my social media, so I’m not allowed to have anything but Goodreads (which I need for school, anyway).

I'd love to hear what you have to say about this post, but please keep all comments G-rated. I reply back to all comments, and if you have a blog, I might even check it out!
